Summary of Position: The Vice President of Development is tasked with the challenge of raising revenues to fund our non-profit work at Bright by Text.

The VP of Development will work closely with the President, the VP of Client Development, the Director of Client Success, and the Chief Content Officer to strategically implement high-impact fundraising and relationship building strategies. The VP of Development is directly responsible for meeting or surpassing the fundraising goals that they develop and recommend to the President and the Board of Directors for budget approval. They will provide leadership, strategic direction, oversight, and efficient coordination for the development team to execute the development plan, and to monitor progress toward these goals. The Vice President of Development will also support the President and the Board to cultivate relationships that strengthen and expand Bright by Text’s networking contacts.


Primary Responsibilities:

  •   Guide grant strategy utilizing granting organizations’ feedback, Bright by Text strategy, and knowledge of philanthropy landscape to inform proposal decisions/submissions

  •   Coordinate Bright by Text’s government proposal and contract processes. Manage contract compliance and serve as contract contact with funding organizations. Project manages contract obligations including deliverables, reporting, tracking reimbursements, and establish contractor invoice practices.

  •   Submit budget expense forecast, revenue and expenses related to grants and contract activity. Interact with Bright by Text accounting to ensure accurate reimbursement.

  •   Research new funding opportunities based on organizational needs and revenue goals. Develop, maintain, and report grant forecasts and actuals.

  •   Manage existing and cultivate new relationships with corporate, foundation, state, individual, and philanthropic partners

  •   Manage Bright by Text’s development officer and assist in performing grant research and authoring grant proposals/reports to foundations, corporate funders and state and federal government agencies utilizing qualitative and quantitative input across Bright by Text disciplines and systems. Coordinate internal review and approval process.

  •   Work collaboratively to stay up-to-date on key initiatives and the needs of program, content, and evaluation teams. Articulate activities, stories, and impact, as well as ensure needs and capabilities are reflected in proposals and reports.

  •   Communicate grant and contract obligations to the organization. Interface with Coeffect (BBT’s data impact partner) for evaluation commitments for grants and contracts.

  •   Create, implement, and have oversight of Bright by Text’s annual development strategy and operating budget

  •   Lead and manage Bright by Text’s overall development efforts including grants, government contracts, annual giving, corporate sponsorships, online & direct mail campaigns, major gifts, and other solicitations

  • Oversee software systems to support all Development projects and operations. Use Zoho/CRM system to track funding and contract cycles, pursuit schedule, and proposal and award documentation. Track and record grant and donation awards in Zoho and coordinate with finance to ensure accurate transition to receivables. Codevelop recommended improvements to Zoho/CRM system to support contract compliance.


 

Education and Experience:

  •   Bachelor’s or Master’s degree

  •   Minimum of five years of direct experience and knowledge of the full

    spectrum of fundraising, including planned giving, major gift

    solicitations, stewardship, donor recognition and administration

  •   Demonstrated success in networking to build creative and mutually

    beneficial business relationships within the corporate, public and

    nonprofit sectors

  •   Experience working with Senior Level executives in non-profit and

    corporate environments (C-level/VP)

  •   Proven track record of achieving annual revenue targets

  •   Proven management and leadership capabilities

  •   High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and

    attention to detail; high degree of initiative

  •   Strong verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to write

    clearly and persuasively

  •   Demonstrated ability to think strategically with a thorough

    understanding of strategic development

  •   Demonstrated abilities to prospect, cultivate, and manage new donors

  •   Strong partnership-building skills

  •   Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding

    base

  •   Good computer skills and knowledge of database programs.

    Experience with Zoho One is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits: $120,000, health, dental, vision, life, 401K
