“Families can receive a text message that has a little bit of communication on what the article is about, families who are interested can just click through,” Program Director for Project Hope at Buckner Children and Family Services, Michelle Heflin said.

A free texting platform through Buckner Project Hopes in Longview and Bright by Text offers virtual communication to families and students working from home.

“What’s great is this content is nationally vetted, they’re using content from PBS Kids, Sesame Street, there’s a long list of partners who have come on board with the bright by text,” Heflin said.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this service creates a unique opportunity to help families across the state.

“Our service leverages the reach of text messaging to engage parents and caregivers where they’re at. Delivering important tips, resources, and activities right to their cell phones,” Senior Program Manager with Bright by Text, Rebecca Levy said.

Bright by Text is also offering resources such as local food pantries and more.

“I cannot imagine how beneficial that would be to families all over longview, Gregg county, smith county, wherever they are…being able to have that information they can be pinpointed to that specific agency that is offering that service,” Heflin said.

Buckner Project HOPES in Longview is collaborating with Bright by Text on child development education.

This service allows parents or family members to text in and provide the ages of the kids and their zip code. The reason for this is because when they text in that information, the service responds by sending links with new alternative ideas on educating the kids on certain topics.
